Professor Costas Douzinas (Birkbeck School of Law) will deliver annual Politics in Times of Anxiety/Cluster public talk. The talk entitled ‘Is there a right to resistance and revolution?’ will be held on Thursday, November 14, from 4.30pm to 6pm in Mansfield Cooper G22. Prof Douzinas is one of the key figures in critical legal studies and his current research interrogates the possibility of resistance, revolution and thinking politics from anew. This promises to be a lively and engaging event. All welcomed.
Revolution is a well-known topos in philosophy from Kant to Hegel and Marx. Right on the other hand has been abandoned to liberal legal and moral philosophy. The age of resistance we have entered give us the prefect opportunity to examine philosophy’s and law’s hesitant exploration of the link between revolution and right and to revisit the metaphysical foundation of right itself.
